How to make your own aux (auxiliary) cable!

It might happen to you, that you are in an urgent need of an aux cable to play your music but you don't wanna rush to the store to buy one. Well then, continue to read, as I tell you how to make your own aux cable.

Time it takes : 10-15 minutes

Things you'll need:
  1. 2 pair of earphones
  2. Electric tape
  3. A lighter or matches
  4. Scissors
You will need to sacrifice 2 of your earphones or headphones.

Steps

  • Cut the earphone's cord from the joint where it splits into two earbuds.
  • Remove the rubber insulation of the cord by whatever method you feel comfortable with.
  • You will now see either 3 or 4 wires depending upon the type of earphones/headphones, as shown.

  • For the three wire cord, the colours of the wires will be red, blue/black and yellow/bronze.
  • For the four wire cord,  the colours of the wires will be red, blue/black, yellow/bronze and green.
  • Before connecting the wires, you need to remove the plastic coating on them, it is because of that you see the colours of the wires. Use a lighter or some matches to get the job done. Be careful though, to not burn the cord.

  • Now if you have two cords that both have equal number of wires, it becomes a lot easier to connect them. You simply need to join the wires of the same colour.
  • But for the 3 and 4 cord combination, you will need to join three wires together, the yellow and green from the 4 wire cord to the yellow wire in the 3 wire cord. Join the red and blue/black wires as usual.

This looks a bit messy, sorry for that, but after you burn their plastic coat, it just becomes like this, at least in my case :)
  • Before you tape up the wires, connect your cable and check the sound, otherwise you'll need to remove the tape if it doesn't work fine. *You can even try the wire combos after connecting the two ends of the cords to your devices if you are having trouble finding the correct wires to join.
Taped up and connected :)
